The huge, bloated fish is brought out of the shape of the natural stone by means of only a small amount of interference to it, all emphasised by the original polychrome decoration.
The occasion for the donation was the 200’s anniversary of Thorvaldsen’s birth on 19 November 1970. The actual installation was not marked, but in connection with the selection of roses at 3 p.m. on 16 July 1972 there was a reference to the monument in the speech by Copenhagen's head gardener.
