Prework:
Lion and Lioness Fighting over a Wild Boar. (1874). Bronze. H. 37. Cast in bronze 1923 by L. Rasmussen after wax model that has been lost. The model was a gift from the artist to Carl Jacobsen 1888. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Inv. no. 492a.
Original model in plaster exhibited in the Salon, Paris, 1875. Bronze cast in the Salon, Paris, 1882. Later erected in the Tuileries.
Bronze version slightly larger than that in the Glyptotek in the Musée d’Orsay, Paris

Description

The lion has broken the rear hind leg of the wild boar in its jaws. On the ground beneath the group can be seen overturned plants and prickly pears after the struggle.
