In Genesis, Chapter 4, it is told that Cain's great-great-grandfather Lemek had three sons, one of whom was Tubalcain, who became the first ancestor of all who forge in copper and iron.
The statue is placed near what used to be the Technological University. This suggested a symbolical link between the figure of Tubalcain and technological progress.
